Dog Breeds of the World was started in 2004. At that time it was hosted on a subdomain of The Bulldog Information Library http://dogbreeds.bulldoginformation.com. At first it only described individual dog breeds other than bulldog breeds, molosser breeds, guard dog breeds, bull-and-terrier breeds that were hosted on The Canine Information Library. With the growing success of the site, more and more breeds were added and a new domain www.dogbreedsoftheworld.org was launched in 2006 to host the new Dog Breeds of the World homeage.

Pages that were historically part of The Bulldog Information Library remained hosted under http://dogbreeds.bulldoginformation.com, or occasionally http://caninebreeds.bulldoginformation.com. That's why the 'Dog Breeds of the World' menu contains items that refer to these original subdomains. As many of the Dog Breeds of the World breed descriptions have been bookmarked and cited as references by our visitors, we thought it was more important to keep those articles at their original places rather than creating one consistent navigation menu within the same domain. However, in order not to confuse our visitors we have used the same (revamped) lay-out for all our Dog Breeds of the World pages, whether they are hosted on dogbreedsoftheworld.org, caninebreeds.bulldoginformation.com or dogbreeds.bulldoginformation.com. An additional domain Canineinformationlibrary.com was created in 2009 to support our effort to diffuse unbiased, objective information about a growing number of dog breeds, in order that more dogs end up with the owners they really deserve.
