Two further AKC registries allow to register breeds that have not yet been fully recognized by the AKC:
Miscellaneous Class: includes 5 breeds that have advanced from FSS but that are not yet fully recognized. With proven record of good breeding practices and ample gene pool, breeds may be moved to one of the seven recognized AKC breed groups.
Foundation Stock Service (FSS) Program: allows to record birth and parentage of rare dog breeds or breeds under development in the United States; the foundation stock from which eventually a fully recognized breed might result. To participate in AKC events at least 150 individual dogs must be registered; thereafter, competition in various events is provisional. includes 57 breeds.
